Full Job Description

iGen Educational Academy ignites learning in children and enhances their 21st century skills — collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity — through project-based learning and digital learning in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators.

Our tutors provide tutoring to iGeners. Our tutors provide personalized and differentiated lessons to engage and meet the learning needs of each individual student. Our sessions are designed to fill a student’s educational gap while addressing their current needs as well.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing classroom or curricula topics and assignments
  • Assisting students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks
  • Working with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom
  • Teaching skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions
  • Demonstrating academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments, including research and writing tactics
  • Developing and distributing teaching materials to supplement classroom lessons, including study guides
  • Conducting practice tests to track progress, identify areas of improvement and help set goals for exam preparation
  • Providing students positive and constructive feedback
  • Offering feedback on progress to students’ parents and teachers where appropriate

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent.
  • Experience with literacy or tutoring.
  • Experience and desire to work with elementary aged children.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse population of children from varied economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • An individual who is self motivated and desires to help better the lives of the youth and families in need is most successful in this position
  • Strong academic background· Reliable car access to travel to students’ homes
  • At least 2 years of teaching or tutoring experience

STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators.

Our instructors are responsible for delivering our curriculum, creating an engaging learning environment and ensuring our i’Geners are living up to our mission- Discover. Create. Innovate., all while learning and applying computer languages to the real-world.

Objective: iGen is looking for energetic and professional STEAM Teachers to join our team! The ideal candidates will have a passion for creating a STEAM-tastic and unforgettable summer for our iGeners.

  • Camp Dates: June 20 – August 25
  • NO CAMP July 19th or July 4th
  • Regular Camp Hours: 9:00am-4pm
  • Extended Day Camp Hours: 8:00am – 6:00pm

You don’t need to be a master in programming or scientist, but interest and enthusiasm are required!

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and delivers instructional materials to students.
  • Have knowledge of LEGO Education products is preferred but not required, Curriculum and training provided.
  • Manage a classroom of up to 20 students
  • Use curriculum to instruct and direct children on the designing and building experience.
  • Have some programming experience
  • Have experience working with elementary age children
  • Have availability to work full time most weeks between June 20 and August 25
  • Clean equipment between uses. Take part in the daily clean-up of the program area.
  • Be present at arrival and dismissal locations as scheduled. Ensure all children have been picked up by an authorized adult or guardian.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers of all ages, interact appropriately with campers in a variety of situations, appropriately model behavior and use positive behavior-management techniques – enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, good sportsmanship and self-control.
  • Manage interns and Jr. Counselors

Qualifications & Skills

  • Have a degree in education or STEM field – preferred
  • Experience with elementary school children
  • Experience or interest in robotics, coding and STEM
  • Must be available from 8:45am-4:00 pm on weekdays .
  • Proven experience as Camp Counselor or similar role working with children
  • Patient and reliable
  • Organizational and communication skills
  • Energetic and positive personality
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job
  • Willingness to perform all job duties with enthusiasm and a positive outlook
  • Deep appreciation for teamwork and drive to be part of a high-level team

SUMMER 2023 CAMP LOCATIONS

  • Capitol Hill DC
  • Shaw/Howard Neighborhood

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)
