Job Description

STEM Instructor
iGen Educational Academy

iGen Educational Academy (iGen) ignites learning in children and enhances their 21st century skills — collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity — through project-based learning and digital learning in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators.

iGen is now hiring a part-time teacher. The hours are 3:30-6:30pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and 1:00 – 6:30pm Wednesday and Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Develop STEM learning activities and hands-on material for classes
  • Manage a classroom of up to 20 students
  • Use curriculum to instruct and direct children on the designing and building experience.
  • Have experience working with elementary school age children.
  • Clean equipment between uses. Take part in the daily clean-up of the program area.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students of all ages, interact appropriately with students in a variety of situations, appropriately model behavior and use positive behavior-management techniques – enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, good sportsmanship and self-control.
  • Supervise and monitor students during assigned aftercare hours including during aftercare sessions
  • Implement all site rules and safety regulations within the structure of iGen’s culture
  • Plan, internalize, and implement lesson plans and daily age appropriate STEAM activities for students in the classroom
  • Report any unsafe conditions, including equipment, to administrators immediately
  • Partner with our drivers to ensure a safe and effective arrival/dismissal for all students before and after school hours
  • Ensure all proactive, positive behavior incentive systems are actively used
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training as deemed necessary for the position
  • Communicate regularly with families of students to build relationships, and share progress and important updates

Qualifications & Skills

  • Have a degree or seeking a degree in education or STEM field – preferred
  • Experience with elementary school children
  • Experience or interest in LEGO robotics and/or STEM
  • Patient and reliable
  • Organizational and communication skills
  • Energetic and positive personality
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job

Job description

iGen Educational Academy ignites learning in children and enhances their 21st century skills — collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity — through project-based learning and digital learning in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators.

Our tutors provide tutoring to iGeners. Our tutors provide personalized and differentiated lessons to engage and meet the learning needs of each individual student. Our sessions are designed to fill a student’s educational gap while addressing their current needs as well.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing classroom or curricula topics and assignments
  • Assisting students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks
  • Working with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom
  • Teaching skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions
  • Demonstrating academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments, including research and writing tactics
  • Developing and distributing teaching materials to supplement classroom lessons, including study guides
  • Conducting practice tests to track progress, identify areas of improvement and help set goals for exam preparation
  • Providing students positive and constructive feedback
  • Offering feedback on progress to students’ parents and teachers where appropriate

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent.
  • Experience with literacy or tutoring.
  • Experience and desire to work with elementary aged children.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse population of children from varied economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • An individual who is self motivated and desires to help better the lives of the youth and families in need is most successful in this position
  • Strong academic background· Reliable car access to travel to students’ homes
  • At least 2 years of teaching or tutoring experience
